The creative technician
I have always had a challenging brain. One that loves art, textiles, clothing, home design, patterns, and balance. On the other hand, I love math, processes, order, and anything technical. A typical ambidextrous ambivert. Analytical but creative. Shy but social. I had a hard time finding my place in the early years, until my 7th grade art teacher believed there was a spark in me. She told me I was an "artist." Those defining words set the stage for my future. I knew I wouldn't make it far as a starving artist, so I attended college. A Bachelor's of Communication at the University of Alabama led me to production, marketing, and graphic artist work at The Tuscaloosa News for 3 years. Next stop, I worked at Communication Arts, a graphic design firm, doing all things digital and prepping files for ad agencies around Birmingham for 2 years. That brought me to a gig at Southern Progress as Production Coordinator for their consumer marketing department. After several years in that seat, I was promoted to custom publishing as Production Manager for various publications. After 7 years, I decided I wanted a change so I joined the marketing team at Sterne Agee. During all of these years, I provided logos and invitations for friends as a side business. Life got hectic and kiddos forced me to jump the full-time work ship. The combination of my loves and my experience led me to start my own official business as a freelance graphic designer.
So, here I am, Dawn Designs. Specializing in setting your small or large business apart from the competition with a fresh and unique approach. And check out my other passions SecondStories and StoryTellers, while you are at it.
